“Unintended” Consequences In Syria

There are now severe shortages of medicine in Syria because pharmaceutical plants are shutting down due to the violence. Since most all medicine used in Syria is produced in Syrian plants, mass shortages are evident. The situation has become extreme!

According to an article in the Los Angeles Times:

“Drugs to treat tuberculosis, hepatitis, diabetes and other maladies are urgently needed, along with chemical reagents to screen blood before it can be used for infusions for trauma and surgery patients, according to reports received by the United Nations agency.”

In addition, many hospitals, especially those in battle zones, are now closed or not reachable due to the very dangerous surrounding environment. Many ambulances have been destroyed as well in these battle zones.

As would be expected, much of the blame has been leveled at the Syrian government, but as has been evident throughout this war, U.S. backed rebels have been the ones responsible for most of the civilian deaths and property destruction.

I’m not defending Assad or the Syrian government, but this fighting, and its horrible consequences, have been mostly due to rebel activity, not that of the Syrian government. Most of this interference has been by design, and the hand of the U.S. government is all over the killing and mayhem.

As is the case with all war and aggressive interference by outside forces, “unintended” consequences eventually become evident. This lack of medical care and medicine is no exception. But is it unintentional and simply an unintended consequence? I think not! Those who favor this invasion of Syria, the U.S., Israel, and their allies, know full well that constant fighting and war will produce shortages of the staples of life.

When food, medicine, water, etc. become scarce, the results are devastating and cruel. They are cruel to all, especially the weakest; those like the old, the women and the children. (Remember the 500,000 children under the age of 5 years who died miserable deaths in Iraq due to brutal U.S. sanctions) Propaganda then can turn this situation into a useful tool for those who are attempting violent regime change. The mainstream media of course goes along with this propaganda by spreading the lies fed to them by the aggressor government. That is certainly the case here.

While the U.S. government and its complicit military talk of human rights and human dignity, it at the same time is knowingly allowing massive suffering and death of innocent Syrian civilians. In the government’s mind this is just useful collateral damage, nothing more!
