This post will certainly be a little different than normal, but very worthwhile in my opinion.
I received an email response to my blog site today from a young man who is just 25 years old. He first praised me for the job I am doing with my writing, and then said he would like to have a conversation with me. We were able to talk today.
This young man is currently running for a local house seat, something that given my beliefs, would normally concern me, but in this case I was to be happily surprised. His demeanor, his respectful attitude, and his well-spoken manner came as somewhat of a surprise to me. I immediately felt very comfortable talking to this young man who had an obvious interest in freedom and liberty, and who was passionate about what he could do to better the situation we now face in this country.
It is so refreshing to see someone at this age who is thoroughly interested in learning more about the freedom philosophy. I am more times than not very critical of the young coming out of the government school system, and while this isn’t always warranted, especially since most of them are trapped in that horrible system, I find myself ambivalent to their plight, due to their normally apathetic behavior, and lack of caring about liberty. Then, I get surprised, and I welcome it.
I had a very intelligent discussion with my responder today, and many questions were asked. His interest in learning, and his willingness to listen, were very refreshing to me. His desire to do something instead of complaining was a good example of what is needed in this country. He even asked me to contact him at any time in the future that I had an idea or thought that might help him to understand better what he might do to change things. I was flattered!
I came away from this short experience with a renewed hope for the future, because when those of us who have been around for some time are no longer able to carry on this fight, we will need these young and vibrant minds who believe in something, to continue to strive for freedom and liberty in our place. Actually, we need them now more than ever.
I would like to thank him for taking the time to show such an interest in such an important issue, and I also thank him for contacting me. It made my day!
