The courageous and tenacious Glenn Greenwald, along with Ewen MacAskel and Laura Poitras published a story in the Guardian titled: Edward Snowden: The Whistleblower Behind the NSA Surveillance Revelations. This is the story of a true hero who is now most likely a marked man.
Snowden, a former CIA technical assistant, is responsible for leaking the most damning evidence against the National Security Agency (NSA) in its history. Snowden has decided to come out publicly with his identity in the cause of doing the right thing by exposing the massive spying on Americans by the NSA. He is not hiding the fact that he is the one who blew the whistle on this privacy invasion by the U.S. government. This is heroic beyond the imagination of most!
He said in a note when turning over the first set of documents:
“I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions,” but “I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant.” “I don’t want public attention because I don’t want the story to be about me. I want it to be about what the U.S. government is doing.”
This brave man has given up very much in order to expose massive corruption and to expose the truth, and he will surely long suffer due to his courage and his desire to tell the world the truth about this fascist and tyrannical U.S. government.
His future holds much danger and possible torture abuse, as the powerful U.S. government does not want anyone telling about its corrupt and criminal behavior. The government will do everything in its power in my opinion to harm Edward Snowden. It relies on instilling fear in any others who might decide to come forward with damning evidence by indefinite detention, torture, rendition or just plain disappearing of witnesses to its crimes. Just consider what has happened to another great hero, Bradley Manning.
This is another tale of David versus Goliath, and we can only hope with all our hearts and minds that David once again triumphs in the end!
