“Stop and Frisk” in New York City

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is being sued over the expansion of its “Stop and Frisk Campaign;” an expansion that now includes warrantless searches of citizens inside their residential buildings.

The original “stop and frisk” was done on the streets of New York. Residents were randomly stopped, placed with their hands held in the air or up against a wall, and frisked, or forcibly searched. Why was a suit not filed before now? Is one’s home more sacred than his body? Both of these invasive assaults are indignant, intrusive, unwarranted, and frightening, but that is the intent of the police. The more frightened the citizen, the easier he is to control.

The lawsuit will concentrate on the fact that this is racially targeting mostly blacks and Latinos, but that is only a small part of the insanity of this anti-liberty invasion of privacy and home. These assaults on New York City residents are done completely without warrant. No cause is given, and no warrant issued by any judge. The cretins in uniform can target anyone they choose to, and at any given time and place.

Not that I am a fan of the constitution, but this practice eliminates any protection under the Fourth Amendment. It also is a direct attack on one’s natural rights. Regardless of whether the person targeted is black, white, Latino, or polka-dotted, this is wrong! This suit should concentrate on the real issue at hand, that being the attack on innocent citizens by a corrupt and bullying NYPD. After all, would this practice be proper if it were conducted against only the Chinese? Of course not! It is a travesty regardless of any racial implications.

This continuous march of government to create a police state environment, using police state tactics, will not stop until the people stand up and stop it. While New York City seems to lead the way in strong arm and abusive behavior, the rest of the country will eventually follow along. None of us can afford to allow this kind of behavior to continue by the out-of-control criminals wearing their “official” state garb.

It is time to put a stop to “stop and frisk.” It should be the state who is fearful of the people, not the other way around!
