Secrecy: The Enemy of Freedom

This was the first paragraph in a story by John Glaser of  Antiwar.com.

“A judge in Washington, DC has allowed the CIA, FBI and National Security Agency to keep information secret regarding the complicity of British authorities in extraordinary rendition.”

A British activist group filed requests through the Freedom of Information Act, to receive documents relating to extraordinary rendition, but no documents were released because according to U.S. law, anyone representing any foreign government can be denied.

Extraordinary rendition is the process of sending suspects in the so-called war on terror, to other countries to be tortured or worse. This is done without giving any benefit of due process to any of the suspects.

The vice chairman of the activist group, Tony Lloyd, said the decision “was intended to avoid embarrassment, instead of for national security reasons.” I think this opinion is spot on, and without question. If those sent off to totalitarian states to be tortured were in fact terrorists, what would there be to hide, and how could that now affect national security?

There were 43 requests for information solicited from the CIA by the British activist group, but none were forthcoming. These requests were needed in order to find out about U.S. and British involvement in brutal torture and murder.

The secrecy sought by the CIA and top government officials remains intact, and the truth is the victim again. These cretins are above the law, and their judicial partners in crime continue to protect them, and hide their heinous criminal behavior.

So long as this government can hide behind the law and black robes, and keep its abominable crimes secret, it can continue its murderous ways. This well fits into Obama’s agenda, and most likely any who follow him!
