Allegiance: “the loyalty of a citizen to his or her government or of a subject to his or her sovereign.” (Dictionary.com)
For those who joyfully recite the “Pledge of Allegiance” to the flag and nationstate, it might first be instructive to understand that the author of this state worship pledge was a nationalist preacher who was a devout socialist. To read the pledge and not realize this is stark reflection on the so-called educational system of this country.
I am almost ashamed to admit that it took me until the age of 16 years to come to the conclusion that pledging allegiance to a flag and state was reprehensible. I certainly had doubts before that time, but did not take action against reciting such nonsense until later. That was not an easy thing to do, especially given my shyness at this age, but I was so compelled to never participate in such slave-like behavior, that I stood up in front of the entire student body of my high school, and refused to ever say the pledge again. I never have since, and that was in 1967. It took a little longer to do the same with the awful “National Anthem,” but that is another story.
I was reminded of the pledge lately, so I went back to research some of the negative and positive comments about this subject. This was very telling indeed. There are those conservatives who think the pledge is sacred of course, because state worship among the warmongering right is obvious. The left, on the other hand, normally have the same reverence for this atrocious pledge, but in many cases for different reasons. With that knowledge, it then became apparent to me that the biggest objection for the past several decades is the state mandated insertion of “under God.” What?
The basis for total contempt of this communistic pledge should lie in the fact that it was, and still is, an attempt by the state to control and form the minds of impressionable children. The language “under God,” does not change that fact. It is nothing less than a formula to train the young to grow up as state worshipers and good little nationalist citizens. All this of course is guised in the form of false patriotism, but that fakery has worked masterfully in the indoctrination of school children since 1945.
Collectivist minds always gravitate first toward the well being of the “community,” and that thinking is meant to destroy individuality and self reliance in favor of the group. That is backward, and is the reason for this welfare seeking society that believes they are owed something at the expense of others.
We now live in a fascist oligarchy that is steeped in socialistic ideology. That could never have happened in a free society based on individual effort and talent, and any belief in self responsibility. The Pledge of Allegiance is just one step in the process of the complete indoctrination of children by the state into a belief system that allows for collectivist thinking over the individual. Ending the practice is the only sane solution.
