While many claim that the “Founders” were against standing armies, that argument cannot be legitimately supported. The reason for this is that there is not one passage in the very flawed constitution that restricts in any manner standing armies. In fact, full and total power is given to Congress in Article 1, section 8, concerning waging war and raising and sustaining standing armies, and most all those “Founders” voluntarily signed on to these massive powers.
So this decision to not close any domestic bases should come as no surprise at all. Of course, the decision was mostly arrived at due to political reasons, but what else is new? Any base closures harm both the federal and state representatives in the area of the closings, and since these slime in office always protect each other, nothing gets done to lessen the military boot on our throats.
The Defense Department claims that it will focus instead on closing military bases overseas, while at the same time it is planning to expand dramatically American military presence in the Persian Gulf so as to start another unwarranted war of aggression against Iran. The Pentagon is also building new bases and refurbishing old bases throughout the Pacific region.
Hypocrisy, contradiction, and lies are all that come out of the mouths of those in government and its military industrial complex. Nothing should be believed unless and until it is factually proven, and that will never happen.
We live in an oligarchy; an oligarchy built and run by the worst among us. That would be the politicians and those who thrive due to political extortion. While the disarming of the citizenry has taken a giant step forward, the power of the so-called elites in government has grown out of control. Should this process continue unabated, the people will be at the mercy of the rulers, without the means to defend themselves. What will become of such a weak and pathetic society?
