As reported in the Los Angeles Times, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is expanding at a very dangerous pace. The TSA isn’t just in airport terminals anymore. In fact, it is at train stations, bus stations, ferry terminals, and many other mass transit locations all across the country.
The TSA now has 25 “Viper” teams (Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response) that are conducting searches and screenings across America. Over 9,300 unannounced checkpoints and other search operations were run just this past year, and the expansion continues.
Of course, every single search is warrantless and therefore illegal, but they continue unabated nonetheless. The evil Department of Homeland Security has asked Congress for even more funding so that 12 more Viper teams can be added in 2012. How many more invasive and totalitarian searches will next year bring?
It won’t be long until these searches are happening everywhere, and completely without cause. The mission is intimidation and control, and those affected are the average citizen, not the “elite” who oversee this abhorrent totalitarianism.
We all should do whatever possible to stop this assault on our freedom. We should avoid these searches at all costs, and should do whatever possible to not allow this invasion by government. The longer this goes on without resistance, the worse it will become. It will happen more often, and the invasions will be more intrusive. The danger of allowing this behavior to go forward will adversely affect us all, and time is not on our side.
The TSA is a horrible agency that is controlled by the awful Department of Homeland Security. Considering all the anti-liberty legislation that has been passed since 9/11, and the recent passage of the military detention act, the result of the TSA’s searches could mean the unlimited detention of many Americans without any benefit of charge or trial. Our due process has effectively been disappeared, and the larger this monster called the TSA becomes, the more risk we face!
