Israel today launched a military strike against Gaza, killing the commander of the Hamas military wing, Ahmed Al-Jaabari. Also killed (murdered) according to Hamas representative Osama Hamdan, was Al- Jaabari’s son, and everyone else in his car.
Immediately after the Israeli assassination of al-Jaabari and his son, the Israeli air force bombed areas of the city, causing much destruction, killing nine others, including three children according to the health ministry. Israel of course called these strikes “selected targets,” but obviously, only civilians were killed, along with forty wounded. But this was just a little “collateral damage,” you understand.
This is a major escalation of war by Israel, and it will cause tensions to rise dramatically all over the region. Egypt has now threatened to get involved, and Iran is preparing for possible attacks by Israel and the U.S.
Given this deadly military attack by Israel, it seems obvious that the continuation of aggression will only grow. With the tenuous situation in Syria, with the Israeli posture toward Gaza and others, and with Egypt threatening to get involved, this situation can only get worse. The implications of this could be deadly, and could lead to all out war in the Middle East.
Israeli sources and neocon publications in the U.S. immediately attempted to tie this attack to Iran by claiming that the Hamas military and Iran are working together. Whether this is true or not, that would not be a valid reason for the attack. It would never justify the killing of civilians, including children, which is pure unadulterated terrorism! The intent by the media was to once again stoke the drums of war against Iran, and eventually, due to the fear and ignorance of the general population, that war will take place. We will all be in great jeopardy should that war go forward.
My belief is that this scenario is one that is purposely sought by Israel, and one that is being perpetrated in order to drag the U.S. into the conflict militarily. Once that happens, a war against Iran becomes almost imminent.
