The co-founder of Facebook, Eduardo Saverin, renounced his U.S. citizenship last year in anticipation that the U.S. government would soon be stealing tens of millions of his dollars. He was of course right in his thinking.
Because of this one incident, Chuck Schumer, democratic senator from New York, and Bob Casey, democratic senator from Pennsylvania, are attempting to pass legislation that would allow the government to tax those (steal their assets) who are no longer citizens of the U.S. They also want to tax the capital gains of anyone renouncing their citizenship at a 30% rate. In addition, this plan would bar any like Saverin from ever returning to the U.S.
This act is called: “Ex-PATRIOT” – “Expatriation Prevention by Abolishing Tax-Related Incentives for Offshore Tenancy.” It should be titled: “Schumer Lusts for all Assets and Valuables of Everyone,” or SLAVE Act.
To be serious, this is more troubling than most realize. Many will clammer on and on about “paying your fair share,” whatever the hell that means, but this type of legislation has very serious implications that are far reaching and tyrannical.
Schumer’s proposal rests on the premise that all property belongs to the state, and that the lowly citizen might be allowed to retain a small portion of that community property if permission is granted by government. In addition, Schumer wants to control the laws of other countries, and other country’s citizens. This is arrogance beyond imagination, and makes the statement that all are slaves to the state!
Some would argue that those who have left this country in order to gain more freedom elsewhere will not be affected by this because they live under another country’s laws. I would not accept this explanation too quickly. The U.S. government has threatened many countries in the past with sanctions and worse if they did not cooperate with the IRS. They will do so again, and it is difficult for smaller countries to buck the powerful U.S. government, especially when that government can harm economically almost any country that stands in its way.
All this said, the most troubling aspect of this legislation is that it assumes that all earnings and savings of Americans are the property of the state, not the individual. It also assumes that once a citizen, always a citizen, whether one likes it or not. No other country on earth takes this position. The idea that America is the freest country on earth is nothing more than a joke. Without the right to private property, no freedom exists.
By threatening any who choose voluntarily to leave this country with massive theft is akin to keeping them in a cage. By threatening any who choose to voluntarily leave this country with banning them forever from returning is also a type of imprisonment. The only reason for this new law is that government holds the position that all private property belongs to the state, and therefore all who live here are slaves to the state.
The options left are becoming more clear. Either leave the United States as quickly as possible, never to return, or eliminate entirely the very corrupt government that is attempting to control all!
