As reported by Reuters, the U.S. government, via the CIA, carried out two drone attacks in Pakistan and Yemen recently , drone attacks killing at least 9 people, and injuring several more. The drone pilots, cowards sitting in cozy quarters far away, were not ever in any danger.
The bottom line of these attacks is that in this particular situation, as is most always the case, the victims were only “suspected” of being “militants.” In other words, no proof of any kind esists that these men were terrorists. Of course, the U.S. is not really looking for terrorists, or they would have to look no farther than their own camps, but are looking to murder those who would fight back, or defend themselves from aggressive U.S. attacks. These are the ones labled as militants, insurgents, or terrorists. The real terrorists are sitting in faraway places, in comfortable heated rooms, firing deadly missles from drones at wedding parties.
The idea that only suspicion, or the pretense of suspicion, is necessary in order to gain authority to bomb and kill those in other lands, is frightening. What is more frightening, is that the U.S. government, on orders from the president, has the “legal” power to do the very same thing here on American soil, due to the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012. So these types of attacks could be coming to a neighborhood near you in the future.
This indiscriminant killing by the U.S. government and its military will continue so long as the people do nothing to stop it. Murdering those overseas does not seem to bother the average American, but when these attacks target those under “suspicion” here at home, will any of the sheep stand up and say no more? We will find out soon enough, because this killing will not stop with only Middle Eastern targets! U.S. government sanctioned murder is now so commonplace that it occurs nearly every day somewhere in the world, as reported on this occassion. How many drone strikes are not reported?
These attacks are normally aimed at one or a few people, but those in close proximity, whose lives are always threatened, are never considered. It will be no different when the CIA prosecutes killer drone attacks domestically, with the stated goal of “taking out” one bad guy or another. Will that so-called bad guy be in your wedding party?
