A headline this week read:
“Iran Launches Submarine and Destroyer into Gulf During US Naval Exercises”
An initial reading of this headline would most likely be taken by the average reader to indicate that Iran was launching an attack against the U.S., when in fact, Iran is simply conducting a defensive exercise, and a warranted one at that, due to an act of aggression perpetrated by the U.S. military. The U.S. is prosecuting war exercises off the Iranian coast. What if the reverse were the case?
This is normal misrepresentation by the mainstream media; misrepresentation purposely fed to the media by government sources, and regurgitated verbatim.
The U.S., France, and some others are this week conducting naval (war) exercises in the Persian Gulf. This is a direct threat to Iran, who in this case is the one being aggressed against by hostile invaders. Iran has every right to be concerned, but the Iranian Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said that the:
“exercise is a defensive exercise and we don’t perceive any threats from it. We are not conducting exercises in response.”
It seems to me that the cooler heads are those of the Iranians, not those of the Western warmongers constantly antagonizing most of the Middle East, but this is not the impression that is given by the Western press.
These kinds of headlines are telling of the mainstream media’s correctly perceived notion of the ignorance of the average American. But these headlines are very dangerous in that they are presented to garner a particular reaction; a reaction that gives consent by the frightened masses for the U.S. government’s reign of brutal imperialism!
